Louis J. Rogers

Louis J. Rogers is the chief executive officer and chairman of the board of directors of Capital Square Apartment REIT, Inc. He is also the founder and co-chief executive officer of our sponsor, Capital Square. Prior to founding Capital Square, Rogers was a founding member of a national real estate investment sponsor in 1998, where he ultimately served as president and on the board of directors until 2007. Under his leadership, the company became one of the nation’s largest sponsors of tax-advantaged real estate investments, which syndicated in excess of $5 billion of real estate in over 100 offerings, including real estate investment trusts, Delaware statutory trusts, tenants-in-common and other real estate funds.

Prior to 2004, Rogers was an influential tax, securities and real estate attorney. He was a partner with the Richmond, Virginia-based Hirschler Fleischer law firm, where he founded and led the firm’s Real Estate Securities Practice Group. Rogers was responsible for billions of dollars of REIT, DST, TIC and fund offerings as an attorney and executive officer.

Rogers earned a Bachelor of Science from Northeastern University, a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Jurisprudence from Oxford University, and a Juris Doctor degree from University of Virginia School of Law. He is a former adjunct professor of law at the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary and lecturer at the University of Virginia School of Law, where he taught real estate transactions and finance. Rogers has been active for over three decades in numerous bar and real estate security trade groups, having served as member of the board of governors of the Virginia State Bar, Real Property Section; member of the Real Estate Committee of the American Bar Association’s Tax Section; chair of the Investment Program Association’s Section 1031 Exchange Committee; and founding trustee, director and chair of the Legislative and Regulatory Committee of ADISA (the Alternative and Direct Investment Securities Association). Rogers has an AV Peer Review Rating and was named as one of the top lawyers in Virginia in 2006 and 2008. He has written and lectured widely on real estate, tax and securities topics. In 2017, Rogers was a finalist for EY Entrepreneur of the Year in the Mid-Atlantic Region and, in 2020, was listed as one of the most powerful and influential leaders on the Virginia 500 Power List by Virginia Business and was also awarded Real Estate Forum’s Best Bosses 2020 by GlobeSt.
